When to pick it

You can fight around a turret setup and retain a direct attack.

When to skip it

You need all your damage to follow you immediately across the map.

Priorities

  1. Keep a direct weapon for the opening.
  2. Connect Walking Shoes to the pumpkin item.
  3. Move fights through existing turret coverage.

Useful equipment and guides

Use The Carver’s Grin with Walking Shoes. Keep the starting Knife, or another working direct weapon, until the turrets are contributing enough damage. Shoes supplies movement triggers; compatible projectile support can improve the turret shots later.

Reiger recommends shoes and a green gem in the original discussion. TomarEmerald clarifies the part that matters: a trigger makes an existing turret shoot. It does not spawn another pumpkin. Raz O’Xane also recommends Walking Shoes with pumps, pierce and bounce, and describes Katana or Laser Sword as a backup.

Walking Shoes positioning

Walking Shoes must mark the triggerable character item. Check that receiver after fitting or rotating other equipment. Give the direct weapon its own support where space allows; a modifier on the backup weapon does not automatically affect turret shots.

Starting weapon

Keep the Knife working while looking for Shoes. Turrets need time to establish an area; collecting loot or escaping can require immediate damage somewhere else. Spend on useful early equipment before saving every possible future projectile modifier.

Once the Shoes is connected, move through safe ground while fighting. Circling inside a crowd just to earn another movement trigger is a poor trade. Add projectile support only when it accepts the turret recipient.

Turret coverage and bosses

The setup can hold an area while the route sends you toward fuel or the bus. Keep a direct weapon for enemies outside turret coverage. Consider that travel cost when choosing where to fight or when to stop looting.

Boss results in the thread conflict. Retain backup damage and movement even after map clearing feels comfortable. If Shoes never appears, keep improving the direct weapon until the turret support arrives.

The Carver’s Grin counts as Food. Secret Sauce disables marked Food, so keep the Grin outside its selector. This restriction matters when copying an older inventory.
