Death

Death portrait in the game inventory

Character overview

Death offers a level-scaling Scythe and a revival tradeoff: using the revival consumes the original weapon and leaves a weaker blade. Plan for the attack after revival, rather than treating the second life as a reset of the same loadout.

  • Melee
  • Scythe
  • Revival tradeoff
Starting weapon
Scythe; its damage increases with character level.
Unlock encounter
Stay on one map for twelve minutes, then make contact with Death.
Mode requirement
Normal mode.
Revival cost
The original Scythe is consumed, leaving a weaker blade.

Strengths

  • The starting weapon gains damage as the character levels.
  • The Scythe supplies a melee build direction without waiting for a particular weapon drop.
  • Revival provides a contingency when its post-revival weapon cost is accounted for.

Weaknesses

  • Reviving changes the main weapon rather than preserving the original attack.
  • Close-range attacks still require safe movement around chargers and ranged enemies.
  • The unlock attempt requires a long map stay under escalating pressure.

Choose this character when

Choose Death when you want a melee starting weapon and are prepared to manage its revival cost.

Choose another character when

Avoid adding the long unlock encounter to a fragile first-clear run; its risk is separate from reaching the bus safely.

Priorities

  1. Keep melee support connected to the working weapon.
  2. Collect experience without losing the route out of a crowd.
  3. Prepare a post-revival damage option instead of relying only on the original Scythe.

Builds and equipment

Stay on one map for twelve minutes in normal mode for Death’s encounter, then make contact to unlock the character.

Attempt the long stay after your equipment can maintain space against escalating enemies. Keep a recovery option and an escape route. A first-clear run has a different goal; extending it for this encounter adds a separate risk.

Death starts with Scythe. Its damage increases with character level. Revival consumes the original weapon, leaving a weaker blade. Plan around that change instead of assuming the same attack survives a revival.

The Japanese notebook recommends melee support. Preserve safe movement around charging or ranged enemies even when close-range damage feels strong.

Attempt the unlock during the normal eight-day journey. Remain on a map until the Reaper encounter, around the twelve-minute mark, make contact and survive the escape. Killing the Reaper is a separate objective. An Endless encounter does not replace the normal-run unlock condition.

Fill the bus first and keep the approach clear before waiting. If your damage already fails against red-eyed enemies, strengthen the weapon and its support on another run instead of waiting until the escape closes.
