How to meet Death and survive 12 minutes

guide reaper encounter achievement artwork

Quick reference

Meet Death in a normal-run Reaper encounter around twelve minutes. Fuel and an open bus approach reduce the escape risk; the character unlock does not require a Reaper kill.

  • Death unlock
  • 12 minutes
  • Reaper
Mode
Normal eight-day journey for the character unlock.
Encounter
Around twelve minutes on one map.
Preparation
Fuel the bus and preserve its approach before waiting.
Separate goal
Killing the Reaper is distinct from making contact.

What to do

  1. Finish the fuel objective before waiting.
  2. Address any reload interval that already allows enemies through.
  3. Make contact during the encounter and use the prepared exit.

Useful equipment and guides

For Meet and Greet, attempt the Reaper encounter during the normal eight-day journey. Stay on one map until the Reaper appears around twelve minutes, make contact and survive the escape. Killing him is a separate goal. An encounter in Endless does not replace the normal-run unlock condition.

Preparing the map

Choose an ordinary scavenging stop before the normal-route boss. A November 3 player reported a Reaper appearance at HQ without the unlock, and replies direct the attempt to the early normal journey. Seeing the Reaper at HQ is therefore a poor reason to repeat that same unlock attempt there.

Fill the bus before extending the stay. Clear an approach back to it and avoid placing the final wait on the far side of narrow terrain or a crowd. If enemies already reach you during reloads, arrange Yo-Yo or another reload improvement before committing to the extra time.

Choose a map where you can circle through open ground and recover dropped experience. Containers, walls and trees can turn a wide-looking area into a blocked retreat. The fuel guide explains preparing departure before a final detour.

The last minutes

Nighttime threat keeps increasing. Watch whether the current attacks still clear an approach; an increasing level count alone does not show that the escape remains safe. Battery’s on-hit lightning and Rubber Ball’s ranged bounce provide different forms of coverage, while movement determines whether you can reach the bus.

Health Kit needs an interval without another hit to recover health. Shield Generator also resets its armor-recovery timer when you take damage. Repeated contact can prevent either item from finishing recovery.

Meeting, killing and unlocking

Approach for the required contact, then return through the prepared exit. Check the achievement and Death’s character availability afterward. If the goal is the character, a long attempt to kill the Reaper adds another fight after the required encounter.

For a kill attempt, use the weapon comparison and critical-hit build to assess the actual setup. The Death profile covers the playable Scythe and what changes when it breaks.
