When to pick it
You want a flexible first-run plan with few loot requirements.
When to skip it
You already have a fully supported weapon that clears more reliably.
Priorities
- Equip the starter weapons before collecting craft ingredients.
- Give early damage and attack-speed support to the more effective weapon.
- Replace one weapon at a time, retaining the other as backup.
Useful equipment and guides
Start with an active Pistol and Knife when both are available. Give the weapon doing most of the killing first access to support. This opening needs no rare drop, so it leaves you free to collect loot instead of carrying half a recipe.
AurelianoNile recommended the pair in Falduna’s survival thread, then moved toward Katana or Minigun. Bike Pumps and Darts were early support choices in that report.
Support marks and hand requirements
Place each support so its marks reach the intended Pistol or Knife. Check that both weapons remain equipped after rearranging; fitting in the backpack and meeting the hand requirement are separate checks. Leave the rest of the layout flexible for new loot.
If you have only one of the pair, keep using it. Buying the missing starter is less urgent than improving the weapon that is already clearing enemies.
Replacing Pistol or Knife
Keep this opening through the early maps while choosing one upgrade path. Before committing to a craft, compare the replacement’s hand requirement, support coverage and reload gap. Don’t dismantle both working weapons to carry ingredients for an unfinished gun.
Later, replace the part that is falling behind. If the Pistol leaves you exposed during reloads, address that gap; if neither weapon clears enough room, more unused ingredients won’t help. Keep a route back to the bus while making the transition.
Alternative weapons
Malakim preferred handguns in the ranged-weapon discussion; Raz O’Xane favored Knife. Their disagreement is a reason to keep the weapon working in your run. Katana and a supported Minigun are later options when available.
The main traps are hoarding several unfinished crafts and replacing a supported starter with a gun whose reload you cannot survive. Old Void inventories also need a fresh comparison after its 1.0 changes.
