Astronaut

Astronaut unlock achievement artwork: space helmet

Character overview

Astronaut gives armor an offensive use through Spacesuit critical support. Keep a working weapon beside the armor investment; a large protection package does not fix a gun that cannot clear the next approach.

Unlock
Find and defend the shuttle.
Critical tiers
Critical chance above 100% can reach higher tiers.

Strengths

  • Armor can contribute to both protection and the character’s critical support.
  • Body Armor supports the armor-and-crit plan while a Pistol handles direct attacks.
  • Current critical tiers give a reason to examine crit gains beyond the old 100% ceiling.

Weaknesses

  • Armor investment still needs enough weapon damage and support to clear space.
  • Body Armor has a movement cost.
  • Shield Generator recovery is interrupted by damage, so it cannot be assumed to work under continuous pressure.

Choose this character when

Choose Astronaut when you want armor to contribute to the build’s critical-hit plan as well as survival.

Choose another character when

Delay an armor-heavy setup if it removes the damage or movement needed to stay clear of enemies.

Priorities

  1. Keep a usable gun and its support while adding armor.
  2. Compare movement after equipping Body Armor.
  3. Use the current Spacesuit rank rather than older armor-to-crit tables.

Builds and equipment

Find and defend the shuttle to unlock Astronaut. Look for the encounter when choosing routes.

Spacesuit connects armor with critical chance. Keep useful protection while leaving enough support for the weapon clearing enemies. Armor investment won’t solve a long reload or a blocked route back to the bus.

Before replacing equipment, inspect how the current suit rank uses armor and how that armor recovers. The Body Armor build linked below keeps a simple gun alongside the armor investment.

The release adjusts the armor-to-crit upgrade and fixes ranks that previously did nothing. It also allows critical chance above 100% to reach higher tiers. Older suit tables may give the wrong result.

Look for the shuttle encounter in the Canyon biome. Its position varies between maps; complete the defense objective rather than treating a Spacesuit entry in the encyclopedia as proof of the character unlock.

Inspect the weapon tooltip to see critical chance and critical damage after arranging armor and support. Spacesuit’s current armor-to-crit sticker grants 3% critical chance per armor per rank. Critical chance above 100% can reach higher critical tiers.

For example, three armor with the rank-three sticker contributes 27 percentage points of critical chance: 3 armor × 3 ranks × 3%. Read the final weapon tooltip for the total after other effects.

At 250% critical chance, two critical tiers are guaranteed and the remaining 50% can roll a third tier. Each extra tier adds the critical-damage bonus again. Luck affects the leftover roll. The final critical damage therefore depends on both the chance and the weapon’s critical-damage stat.

The armor and crit build keeps a Pistol working alongside Body Armor and optional Shield Generator. Check permanent upgrades when planning improvements between runs.
