Find Fresh Pumpkin at the Fields event in The Meadows, equip it beside Knife and complete the boss clear. Repair a broken pumpkin and keep it out of storage before departing.

The carving pair must be active
Fresh Pumpkin has been found at Fields. Keep Knife and the quest item through the next boss.
Inspect the pumpkinRepair it if the tooltip says broken and cannot be equipped.
- Equip the pair
Move the pumpkin from storage and put Knife directly beside it.
Avoid disabling marksFresh Pumpkin is Food in 1.0; Sauce must not mark it.
Finish the boss and departure with the pair preserved, then check The Carver at base. The ranged gun build is not an unlock ingredient.
Route to the Pumpkin Patch
Look for Fields in The Meadows and its question-mark event. A green-biome location without the Fields destination is not evidence that its loot points contain the pumpkin.
Keep a Knife while choosing the route. Reserve room for that weapon and the eventual pumpkin instead of selling the Knife as soon as a larger gun appears. The weapon carrying the run can remain ranged; the unlock’s carving condition is separate from the later Carver turret build.
Repair a broken pumpkin
Inspect Fresh Pumpkin’s current tooltip and repair it if it is broken and cannot be equipped. Do not assume it is active just because an airdrop or stash screen displays it.
The pumpkin’s warning concerns rotting in the stash. Equip it before the next departure rather than leaving it among spare loot. Keep Knife directly beside it and check the pair after every rearrangement. Fitting a large weapon later can separate them without removing either from the bag.
Complete the normal-route boss and return
Make the attempt during the normal journey, before continuing into Endless. Keep Fresh Pumpkin active with Knife inside its highlighted adjacent cells through the boss clear. A copy in storage cannot form that equipped pair.
In the November 2–3 carving discussion, Thalien reports completing the pair, defeating the boss and receiving the unlock during the reward screen after returning to base. The original poster was attempting the objective around an Endless continuation. Finish the normal-route result and check character selection before beginning another journey.
Keep the weapon combination that can survive that boss while reserving the carving pair’s space and hands. The unlock does not require Minigun or another particular damage build.
After unlocking
The playable Carver uses The Carver’s Grin and Pumpkin Turrets. Triggering existing turrets makes them fire; it does not create another pumpkin every time. The turret build explains Walking Shoes support and keeping direct damage during travel.
Version 1.0 classifies Fresh Pumpkin and The Carver’s Grin as Food. Keep both outside Secret Sauce’s disabling marks when using Sauce elsewhere in the bag. A poison support that switches off the quest item or the character’s attack is a poor trade.
