Triggers

Cogwheel

Cogwheel item artwork from the official release announcement

Item overview

Cogwheel connects marked triggerable items. When one activates, the others activate too, with each item limited to one activation in that chain. A timer, movement effect or another valid event still has to start it.

  • Triggers
  • Marked recipients
  • Once per chain
Effect
An activation is shared with other marked triggerables.
Limit
Each item activates once per chain.
Requirement
At least one valid activation must begin the chain.

Strengths

  • Connects several eligible attacks to one activation.
  • Can combine an independently timed attack with other triggerable recipients.

Weaknesses

  • A bag of passive items supplies no starting activation.
  • Circular connections cannot bypass the once-per-chain limit.

When to pick it

You have several triggerable recipients and a dependable activation source.

When to skip it

You are counting on the connections themselves to create an endless loop.

Priorities

  1. Choose a timer or other valid source to start the chain.
  2. Mark every intended recipient and check its triggerable status.
  3. Recheck marks and event ownership after co-op rearrangements.

Builds and combinations

When one marked triggerable item activates, Cogwheel activates the other marked triggerable items. Each item acts only once within a chain.

Choose a recipient with a usable timed, movement or other trigger. A set of marked objects does nothing until an event starts it. The Throwing Knife and Tesla Coil build below uses two timed attacks that can also receive triggers.

Being marked is only half the requirement. Each recipient must be triggerable. A passive damage support cannot become another attack in the chain.

Recheck the recipients after merging an item or changing bag space. In co-op, a selector may reach the partner’s bag, but that does not make every partner action a valid event for your trigger. Version 1.0 fixes triggers counting events from the wrong character.

Compare the Cogwheel chain guide with the Throwing Knife and Tesla Coil build: the guide explains the chain limit, and the build names the recipients. Bananaperson’s Special Banana is another triggerable attack to consider when its marks fit.
